Stuart H. Slusher Memorial Scholarship Fund Purpose and Guidelines

The Scholarship Fund will award annual scholarships to assist (i) Freeman High School students or (ii) prior Scholarship Fund recipients in funding the educational costs of an accredited college, university, vocational, trade or other school.

Eligibility

The Foundation’s board of directors will adopt, and amend, from time to time, the rules for eligibility. The initial factors to be considered by the Board of Directors in awarding each scholarship include:

  • The student must be (i) a graduating senior of Douglas S. Freeman High School or (ii) a prior recipient of a Scholarship Fund award. The Board, in its discretion, may award a scholarship to a student for one or more years, not to exceed four years.
  • The student must be accepted to an accredited college, university, vocational, trade, or other school.
  • The student must have maintained at least a “C” average at student’s current school.
  • Participation in interscholastic sports is an important but not a defining criteria for selection
  • The selection process shall not discriminate on the basis of religion, race, sex, or national origin.

Selection Process

Mr. Drew Bright serves as the school liaison for the Scholarship Fund selection process. Mr. Bright will assist eligible students in the completion of the Scholarship Application. He will then recommend candidates to the Board of Directors who will make the final selection of one or more students to receive a scholarship and the amount of the scholarship. The members of the Board may also seek out their own scholarship candidates.

Application Deadline: March 1
