After the death of my son, Stuart, by suicide in May 2009, I began to get requests from groups to speak about my experience and what I had learned about teenage depression and suicide.
The one question I invariably got after a talk was, “What resources are out there for us?”
I realized there are a lot of organizations in existence that are providing services (many of them overlapping in scope), but they are not necessarily working together — or even aware of each others’ existence.
So, I decided we needed a website which provided ‘one-stop shopping’ for existing resources, organizations, books, etc., so that anyone who needs help can access it easily.
That is how this website was started.
“I will be continually adding and updating resources I have found to be helpful to me — and that I think could be of help to others.” — Alex Slusher
This is not a complete list or an endorsement of any specific organization or resource. It is simply a site where I will be continually adding and updating resources I have found to be helpful to me — and that I think could be of help to others.
I will be including some of my thoughts and experiences and they should be taken as just that — my thoughts and experiences.
It has taken a year, and a lot of dedication and support by friends who have donated time and money to get this off the ground. I must extend special thanks to:
I hope you find this to be of some help.
Sincerely,
Alexandra Slusher
